Final Major Project

The time is here, the end of the course!
Well my final major project is all but finished, hasn't gone total to plain BUT i am very pleased with the finished pieces.
Originally i had planned to keep a dream diary for the source/inspiration for the final images but this proved alot harder to actually do!  When i woke up i couldn't remember what I'd dream ed at all!  i didn't want to make it up so i had a rethink which wasn't very easy with everything else that is going on in my life!  I new that i wanted the images to be involving the eye as i find the whole look of the eye quite interesting, your eyes reflect (depending on lighting) whatever you're looking at, some people are quite expressive with they're eyes and some say the eyes are the windows of the soul.  I began by just putting into google search 'art with eyes' this then got me thinking about sayings with eyes in them, i made a list of all the ones i found for example - Eye of the Storm.

So then i took some photo's of eyes to play around with, i also had a look at Surrealist artwork, dream meanings and a little about the unconscious mind.

With the sayings involving eyes in mind and in my sketchbook i started on Photoshop, i cropped and edited various photographs that i taken of eyes, i soon found i preferred the Black and White look, then i began building various layers to edit the photo's and include a second image, i also found that having the second image in colour added to the overall look.  With the help of a few Photoshop magazines and making a few notes of my own i got quite familiar with the program and this also helped with the ideas coming together.

So the final images i made are for the most a series of images with a secondary image overlaid on the eye, there is also another additional image that i made out of one photograph of my daughter, a ipad created abstract image and a scanned on image of a piece of paper that i marbled. Although the picture doesn't fit within the series i feel it does fit into the surrealist look that i had looked, so it stands alone which is good because i think has such a lot in it to look at.

The series of images have the following titles -
Eye of the storm
Apple of my eye
Hawk eye
Stars in her eye
Dream boats
Watching the time

(having a spot of bother uploading the other images :-/ )

So thats my final major project of the Btec Art and Design course.....  its been ........
emotional!

Art that I saw on my weekend down south.

Honesty time again! I've been really quite lazy on the blog front lately I know, the only excuse I have is that life had taken over! But this past weekend I went home to Kent via London to catch up with the family, whilst there and on my travels through London I had my eyes open looking for art. Here's what I saw, firstly in Folkestone I discovered that they've turned what used to be a tatty old part of the town into the 'creative quarter' there's all manner of art and creative shops, studio's and gallery's there, sculptures on the street to. One is of a Minator's head which looks like its made out of recycled metal.

On my return home through London I spotted the biggest horses head I think I've ever seen! It was at marble arch, a 35ft bronze sculpture by Nic Fiddian-Green, it's called 'clear water' and its inspired by his own favourite chestnut hunter George. New year picture

Well it's the new year, partying is done time to get back to art! I'll be totally honest, I've not done a thing since we stop college for the Christmas break, I know it's shame full but that's life!
So this is the first picture I've done so far, it's my little ones friend Laura, I've used incense ash brushed and rubbed onto unprimed canvas. I sealed it every now and then, it's really trying to get fine detail so instead I just tried to give the impression of certain details. I think the picture looks quite ghostly. I would really like to know how the artist Zhang Huan makes his pictures.
